Installing theoremEd on a Mac
About a minute, and you drag one icon.
- Open the downloaded file. A window appears with the theoremEd icon on the left and an Applications folder on the right.
- Drag theoremEd onto the Applications folder. That is the install.
- Open Applications and double-click theoremEd. macOS asks once whether you are sure, because you downloaded it. Click Open.
- Say yes when it asks to see your screen. It restarts itself, and you never do this again — updates keep the permission.
Then pull up a math problem and press Control–Option–T.
About that “are you sure” box
macOS shows it once for anything you downloaded, including apps from the App Store's competitors and every Mac app that is not from the App Store. Click Open and it never appears again.
What you should not see is “the developer cannot be verified”. theoremEd is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarised by Apple — Apple scanned it for malware and found none — and the disk image carries that proof inside it, so your Mac can check it without even being online. If you ever do see that message, tell me, because it means something is wrong on my end.
Or use the Chrome extension instead. It installs from the Chrome Web Store, there is no file at all, and it does the same thing in your browser tab.
What it needs
macOS 12 Monterey or newer, Apple Silicon or Intel. It reads any window on the computer rather than only a browser tab, which is the reason to use the Mac app over the extension.
